AU Wrestling Announces Incoming Class!

WASHINGTON – American University wrestling head coach Teague Moore has announced the addition of seven student-athletes for the 2015-16 season.

"The 2015 American University Wrestling recruiting class is very unique, by far the most unique in my nine years of head coaching," said Moore. "It's a diverse set of backgrounds that can be combined to create a great environment for individual growth."

Three of this year's newcomers—Connor Borton, Andrew Doak and James Giaccia—join AU straight out of high school, while Jake Scanlan is coming off a year at the Olympic Training Center, where he focused on his freestyle career after winning a prep national title at Wyoming Seminary in 2014.

Colby Baker joins the Eagles after spending two seasons at Bloomsburg University [Pa.]. Meanwhile, Tyler Scotton and Mitchell Wightman come from Boston University, where they have already completed their undergraduate degrees. James Giaccia, 125/133 – Two-time California state qualifier … two-time SCVAL champion.

Connor Borton, 133 – Two-time Ohio state qualifier … two-time Junior Olympic medalist.

Tyler Scotton, 141 – Earned undergraduate degree from Boston University in May … 2014 NCAA qualifier at 141 pounds … placed fourth at 2014 EIWA Championships.

Colby Baker, 141 – Transfer from Bloomsburg University … four-time state qualifier in Florida … four-time district champion.

Andrew Doak, 157 – Four-time Pennsylvania state placewinner … all-time wins leader (158) in Indiana County, Pa.

Mitchell Wightman, 165 - Earned undergraduate degree from Boston University in May … 2014 NCAA qualifier at 165 pounds … placed fifth at 2014 EIWA Championships.

Jake Scanlan, HWT – Iowa native who graduated from Wyoming Seminary (Pa.) in 2014 … spent 2014-15 training at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. … 2014 National Prep champion … placed third in freestyle at the 2015 UWW Junior Nationals.
