As we round out the month of January we saw visits from EIWA foes Brown and Drexel on back to back days of January 10th and 11th.  This was a great weekend for AU as the Eagles came out on top in both duals that were hotly contested.

AU topped Brown on the first night by the narrow margin of 18-16.  The Eagles picked up important victories from Sal Profaci, Kizhan Clarke, Tim Fitzpatrick, Tanner Harvey, Niko Camacho and Gage Curry to come out on top on night one versus the Bears.

The Eagles followed this up with another exciting night of wrestling the next evening as the Dragons of Drexel came to town.  Gage Curry got the dual going with a great overtime win at 125 lbs.  Drexel picked up a win in the next match but AU went on a great run in the middle of the line up by rattling off four wins in a row by Profaci, Clarke, Fitzpatrick and Elijah Murphy before Drexel picked up another win at 174.  Tanner Harvey got AU back on the winning side with a major decision and Niko Camacho finished the dual meet with another decisive victory at 285 lbs to complete the weekend sweep with a solid 27-14 win over another EIWA opponent.

The Eagles followed this homestand with a road trip to Lehigh and Columbia the next week.  The 12th-ranked Mountain Hawks of Lehigh came out ready to perform in front of their home crowd but the AU grapplers were up for the challenge and put a on great show against the Top 15 program.  The Eagles picked up outstanding wins from Kizhan Clarke at 141 and Sal Profaci at 149, and had opportunities to knock off a couple of ranked opponents at 157 and 184, but came up just shy as the Hawks came out on top in the dual 33-8.

The Eagles left Bethlehem, Pa., and went directly to New York City to take on EIWA rival Columbia in what was sure to be a tightly contested dual meet.  Profaci and Clarke stayed on track and opened the dual meet with solid victories at 141 and 149.  Unfortunately, the Lions came out on top in the next three weights to take to lead.  Tanner Harvey got AU back on track at 184 with a dominant 19-4 tech fall.  After AU dropped the next match at 197, Camacho and Curry put AU on top by four as the dual finished up at 133.  Unfortunately, Columbia picked up a last second tech fall to come out on top, 21-20.

In the final week of January, AU competed in another homestand, hosting EIWA foes Navy and Binghamton.  The Navy dual was sure to be an exciting one, as last season's dual meet was won by AU on criteria.  This year was no different as it was done in conjunction with Sally Roberts and the Wrestle Like A Girl Foundation, which saw multiple women's wrestling matches prior to and during intermission of the AU/Navy dual meet.  In a back and forth dual that saw AU come out on top in six of the contested 10 weight classes, the Midshipmen were able to pick up four wins by fall to win the dual meet 24-21.  Picking up victories for the Eagles were Clarke, Fitzpatrick, Harvey, Camacho, Curry (who knocked off a top 20 opponent), and Profaci.  Highlights Here

To finish up this latest homestand, the Eagles hosted the Bearcats of Binghamton.  The Eagles got off to a hot start in this dual, picking up wins in the first four weight classes before the Bearcats picked up their first win when #5 ranked Lou DePrez barely took out AU standout #23 Harvey at 184. Binghamton picked up wins at 197 and 285 before Gage Curry got AU back on the winning side at 125. The visiting team then picked up another win at 133, knotting the score at 15-all.  Fifth-year senior Sal Profaci came up huge and picked up the win at 141 to put the Eagles on top, 18-15!
